Pacapime Hungary and Mondi Containerboard Deliver High-Performance Packaging to Keep Fresh Produce Protected
Pacapime Hungary and Mondi are strengthening the protection of fresh fruit and vegetables through high-quality corrugated packaging solutions designed to preserve product quality, reduce waste and perform reliably throughout the supply chain.
For Lynn and Tom Pissens, Managing Directors of Pacapime Hungary, seeing their packaging on supermarket shelves is both a source of pride and a reminder of the responsibility corrugated solutions carry every day. Protecting perishable goods requires more than efficient production — it demands expertise, consistency and strong partnerships across the value chain.
A Family Legacy with a Modern Approach
Pacapime’s roots as a family business span more than a century. The Hungarian site in Mórahalom, established in 2009 as a greenfield investment, combines decades of corrugated know-how with a modern, lean and highly efficient production setup.
Since 2024, the company has been led by Lynn and Tom Pissens, representing the fourth generation of the family in the industry. Bringing fresh perspectives while respecting the experience of previous generations, the siblings share a strong belief that packaging is ultimately about people — from employees and suppliers to customers and end consumers.
Customer-First Production
Operating from a 42,000 m² facility, Pacapime Hungary produces up to 180 million m² of corrugated packaging annually. The company supplies customers across Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Serbia and Western Europe.
Our guiding principle is customer first — not production first. That means making daily decisions that truly prioritise our customers’ needs.
Tom Pissens, Managing Director of Pacapime Hungary
Flexibility and fast decision-making are particularly critical during peak agricultural seasons. Empowered on-site teams allow the company to respond quickly and reliably, building long-term trust with customers who depend on timely delivery and consistent quality.
Designed for Fresh Produce Performance
Fresh fruit and vegetable packaging lies at the heart of Pacapime Hungary’s expertise. The company manufactures trays and boxes for apples, pears, tomatoes and bell peppers — applications where packaging performance directly impacts product freshness and food waste prevention.
Durable constructions, effective ventilation and strong box performance are essential in these demanding conditions. Packaging must withstand transport, varying climates and humidity levels while ensuring an attractive presentation at retail.
To meet these requirements, Pacapime Hungary relies on high-quality containerboard from Mondi, including ProVantage SmartKraft Brown. The 100% fresh fibre top ply provides strong surface integrity, while excellent strength properties ensure reliable burst and tear resistance. Consistent runnability and processing performance further support efficient production and dependable box quality.
“High-quality kraftliners are essential in fresh produce applications,” explained Tom. “The paper must consistently support box performance, because our customers rely on us to deliver the same high standard every time.”
Partnership Built on Trust
When describing their collaboration with Mondi’s containerboard team, Lynn and Tom highlight one word: partnership.
“Business is about people,” said Lynn Pissens. “You can tell when someone genuinely cares.”
On-site technical support forms a key part of the cooperation. From root cause analysis to production training, the focus remains on joint problem-solving and continuous improvement. For Pacapime Hungary, such long-term partnerships provide the stability needed to deliver consistent quality to its own customers.
Driving Innovation for the Long Term
Encouraging customers to reconsider established box designs or traditional paper combinations can take time. However, through trials, data-driven discussions and close collaboration, Pacapime Hungary works to identify fit-for-purpose packaging solutions that enhance performance and efficiency.
“Product development is often a multi-year journey,” noted Tom. “That is why trust and long-term partnerships are so important.”
Sustainable Growth and Future Outlook
Sustainability is firmly embedded in Pacapime Hungary’s strategy. Investments in water treatment systems, solar energy installations and transparent certification processes help ensure the company remains aligned with evolving customer and consumer expectations.
Looking ahead, Lynn and Tom Pissens are focused on steady growth, portfolio diversification and continued collaboration across the packaging value chain.
“The packaging industry is about people,” they concluded. “Together with our colleagues, customers and suppliers, we want to create reliable solutions and lasting value for generations to come.”
