HP And WWF Partner on Forest Conservation Initiative
HP Inc. is contributing USD1 million to support forest conservation initiatives led by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), as part of the organisation’s Together We Grow campaign to raise awareness of the importance of forests and their role in supporting biodiversity, climate resilience and livelihoods.
The initiative reflects the close relationship between the printing industry and forest resources, with fibre from sustainably managed forests providing an important raw material for paper and paper-based products.
HP said its commitment to forest conservation extends to its sourcing practices. The company requires recycled or sustainably certified fibre for HP-brand paper and paper-based packaging used for its home and office printers, supplies, PCs and displays, with a preference for Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification.
The company said responsible fibre sourcing is intended to support sustainable forest management while reducing pressure on forest ecosystems.
HP and WWF are also working across several forest landscapes considered ecologically important and under pressure, including Brazil’s Atlantic Forest, Madre de Dios in the Peruvian Amazon, eastern Australia, forest provinces in eastern and southern China, the Central Annamites in Vietnam and the Selva Maya on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula.
The partnership forms part of broader efforts under WWF’s Forests Forward corporate engagement programme, which aims to encourage companies to improve forest-related sourcing practices, protect high-value forest areas and support restoration.
HP was among the first companies to participate in the Forests Forward programme. Through the partnership, HP and WWF are supporting initiatives designed to promote sustainable forestry practices, conserve forest landscapes and restore degraded forests.
Some of the work is being undertaken through WWF’s Nature-Based Solutions Origination Platform, which identifies and develops conservation and restoration projects in priority tropical forest landscapes. The platform focuses on addressing biodiversity loss while supporting sustainable livelihoods and climate resilience.
WWF is also encouraging consumers to contribute to forest conservation through measures such as choosing FSC-certified paper and wood products, supporting forest conservation programmes and increasing awareness of forest ecosystems.
For the paper and printing industries, the initiative highlights the growing focus on responsible fibre sourcing and the role of certification schemes such as FSC in linking paper consumption with sustainable forest management.
