Wet-end Starch Consumption Reduced: IBS iTable® maXX® Enables Annual Savings of USD600,000

The IBS Paper Performance Group, one of the technology leaders in paper machine optimisation, has successfully reduced the consumption of wet-end starch by 12 per cent for a European manufacturer of packaging paper. On a machine with an annual production capacity of 195,000 metric tons, targeted upgrades to the wire section yielded significant efficiency gains, resulting in direct annual cost savings of USD 600,000 (EUR540,000). The return on investment (ROI) for the optimisation project was achieved in just a few months.

The installation of the iTable® maXX® was key to this success. Following a detailed audit to optimise the wire section, the technological focus of the rebuild project was on the forming zone of the paper machine. Additionally, the existing manual valves were replaced with precision EVA vacuum valves, accompanied by a comprehensive re-engineering of the entire vacuum system.

These previse measures significantly improved sheet formation, thereby reducing the mass starch requirement while maintaining or even improving product quality. Regular audits and servicing of the dewatering elements ensure long-term plant performance and stability.
